Takeshi Maeda, M.D., Ph.D. from the Department of Neurological Surgery at Nihon University in Tokoyo, Japan and his colleagues visited CNS-Bakersfield on September 15, 2005.

Dr. Maeda and colleagues are interested in how CNS® treats communication and higher cognitive functions associated with traumatic brain injury. In Japan, higher brain functioning following traumatic brain injury is a societal concern, but there is no system in place to track patients from the acute rehabilitation phase through post-acute rehabilitation. Dr. Maeda is interested in the system that CNS® uses to track clients from admission to discharge.

A tour of the Bakersfield, CA CNS® clinic was provided to our guests from Japan. After the tour, we discussed various assessment tools utilized by CNS®, including the Independent Living Scale (ILS) and the Cognition Module; as well as treatments available at CNS® and how brain injury rehabilitation differs between the United States and Japan.

A residential facility tour was also provided. Dr. Maeda and colleagues were interested in this unique aspect of treatment at CNS®.

Since this visit to Bakersfield, Dr. Maeda has remained in contact with CNS®.
